In my opinion, there are basically two kinds of authors; the ones who are naturally talented story tellers and the ones who must live through all the bad and good in life to get those experiences necessary to write. I am the latter.
I grew up an obese child (which is a subject for another book). I grew up the pariah of schoolmates. girls, and family (especially girls!). When I finally decided to do something about it, I lost over 140 pounds over five years and was in the best shape of my life. I married, had children, divorced, married again, had another child, and was enjoying my life.
Unfortunately, my immediate family was plagued with diabetes. I had lost many family members from this horrible disease. No matter how healthy I was, this genetic monster attacked me. I became very sick, lost my job, my two cars, and my apartment, I was homeless for years. I lost a few toes and endured many eye surgeries to keep from going blind. My second wife divorced me and I ended up alone in a rented bedroom off the Jersey Shore.
While there were times I wanted to end it all, I always wanted to write a book. Considering the hell I went through all my life, and that I now had a lot of time to kill, I began writing a story I have been developing for four years.
My reminder of mortality has motivated me not to search for fame and fortune but to have something I can bestow on my children. Every parent wants a better life for their kids and I’m no different. I thank God that I have them to brighten my life and want to make their lives that much more enjoyable. Thanks Kids!view less
