Sheleff is Professor Emeritus in Law and Sociology at Tel Aviv University, Israel. He is the author of twelve books, in both English and Hebrew, covering a wide range of subjects, including: capital punishment and life imprisonment, civil disobedience, bystander studies, customary law and legal pluralism, the rule of law, generational conflict, and a critique of sociological theory.
Sheleff is an active member of several human rights organizations and has written numerous articles in popular and academic journals, warning of the consequences of Israeli governmental policies with respect to the occupied territories and of judicial decisions approving such policies.
Sheleff’s most recent books are In the Shadow of the Cross: Jewish-Christian Relations Through the Ages (Vallentine Mitchell) and Drowning One’s Sorrow: A Socio-Legal Study of Alcoholism Among Indigenous Peoples (in press). He is also founding editor of two Israeli journals in criminology and sociology.view less
