But as she entered adulthood, the writing stopped. She always had a passion for working with children. She enjoys helping scholars attain their goals and empowering them to reach their full potential. In her first teaching job, she was a Headstart teacher in Baltimore, Maryland. She was surrounded with emergent literacy and children’s books, and her love for writing had returned. She delivers relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons using various instructional strategies in the classroom setting. But the learning and teaching for Miatta Harris does not end in the classroom. She often fosters creativity with her students through the arts, whether it’s through dance, song, or poetry. Miatta Harris is also a poet/spoken word artist. When she was faced with many trials and obstacles, writing became her only outlet. She writes from a standpoint of strength, resilience, peace, and perseverance. The challenges that she has encountered in her adulthood has strengthen her desires as a writer. She writes from personal experiences and shares them with others with the hopes of inspiring them. She often performs her poems throughout Maryland and Washington, DC. She is a resident of Maryland.view less
