He grew up in North Dakota and Minnesota during the years of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. He went into the army on his eighteenth birthday and never looked back. He was in the military for twenty years, worked in the electronics industry for twenty years, and has been retired for twenty-seven years.
He drew his first paycheck at the age of thirteen and his last one at age fifty-nine.
In addition to his vocation, he has belonged to organizations such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Toastmasters, the Mensa Society, and the United Methodist Church. He has also worked as an amateur genealogist, compiling histories and printing books on over a dozen families.
From his parents and his experiences, he learned the values of integrity, hard work, and self-improvement.
