Gifted academically and musically, she studied at Oberlin College before beginning a career as a talented soprano and teacher. In 1927, she met Hans Bohle, a visitor from Germany. They married three years later in his homeland, where they began raising a family.
As the wife of a German business executive, Ruth enjoyed a life of wealth and privilege. But that ended with the advent of World War II. Hans was drafted and nearly died from wounds suffered in battle, and the family eventually was left destitute and homeless. Through it all, Ruth found within herself the strength, courage and determination to assure the survival of her family. Following the war, they emigrated to California and rebuilt their lives. After a fruitful and inspiring life, Ruth Bohle died at the age of 99.view less
