At 65 and forty years returning from Southeast Asia, he decided to write his first novel. Marks served in the Army with the 1st Infantry Division and the 173d Airborne Brigade in South Vietnam from 1968-1970. His passions are the welfare of veterans, and conservation and preservation, especially, that of wild cheetahs. He is also a strong advocate of health and fitness.
