ANITA KULKARNI was educated in
India and the United States. Her spatial
designs are known for sensitive green
thinking, dramatic visual impacts and
excellent micro-climatic modifications. A
vivid thread weaves her design philosophy,
wherein space is seen as an expressive
open canvas, and in continuity, forming
an integral environment of tree groves,
brick walls, lily ponds, furniture and
accessories. Her international practice
spans across two decades and covers
hundreds of completed projects including
work in climatically challenged zones of rural India. She has been
a visiting faculty member at the college of Architecture at Bombay
University for 8 years.
She is a prolific writer in the subject of architecture. Her passion for
literature, painting and music - the fine arts originating in Architecture
- is expressed through her work. In her own words, “The immensely
creative experience of poetry rises from within. The process reminds
me of a deeply expressive quote by Olivanna Milanoff, on the Taliesin
story. “The whole opus looked like something we had not been building
but excavating...” (Olivanna Milanoff was the wife of Architect Frank Lloyd
Wright. The quote has a reference to the Poem in this book, on Taliesin west -
‘Silhouetted against McDowell Mountains’). Gypsy is a collection of hundreds
of such creative moments”.view less
