He has served at local, state and federal levels – in both elect...view moreDixon Arnett has completed over 40 years of public service in the health and human service fields and in education. He has served at local, state and federal levels – in both elected and appointed positions. He has also served as an administrator at Claremont McKenna College and at Stanford University (from which he graduated in 1960).
Arnett’s prior public service includes three years as Deputy Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He also served as Legislative Director for former US Senator Pete Wilson (R-CA). During the 1970s Arnett was a member of the California State Assembly, representing southern San Mateo County. He was elected to four two-year terms.
When California elected Pete Wilson as its governor, Arnett served as executive director of the Medical Board of California and, later, as the director of the California Department of Aging. During most of his public career he served on the Board (two terms as President) of the Junior Statesmen Foundation, a nationwide non-profit organization designed to encourage interest in, and knowledge of, public policy issues and politics at the high school level.
Arnett currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at San Diego State University where he guest-lectures and has taught courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. He also teaches courses on national issues and politics at the Osher Institute on the SDSU campus.view less
