While many may identify with the modern day gentrified Williamsburg, Jasmin does not. Williamsburg was a neighborhood with deep history and beauty. However, growing up Williamsburg wasn’t easy. There was extreme poverty as well social and economic inequalities that were prevalent. Jasmin was determined to finish school and against all odds, make something of herself. In doing so, she promised that she would tell her tale for others to read. Her goal is to inspire little girls across every inner city to aspire to be better, and appreciate their surroundings independent of falling victim to them. Many influences helped in molding the woman she is today, such as hip hop music, graffiti, art, and dancing to name a few. The arts were something that Williamsburg helped create and nurture; for this, Jasmin is forever grateful and has become a huge advocate of the arts.
Now 38 years old with a Masters of Science in Special Education, Jasmin is a self contained teacher in Sunset Park Brooklyn, where she proudly teaches and motivates a population of students that much emulates the population of her neighborhood growing up, Williamsburg Brooklyn.view less
