He discontinued his studies, however, to devote his time to literary writing. Worked at the Iraqi, Jordanian, and Palestinian Press. Participated in the Iran-Iraq war (1980) and the Gulf War (1991). Lived under siege since the beginning of 1990. Had a warrant for his arrest as a result of publishing a short story. Left Baghdad in 1996 and joined political opposition, No-Fly Zone. Left northern Iraq and immigrated to Canada in 1999. Published five novels in Arabic.
