Ollye shared humble beginnings with her Father, mother, grandmother, two brothers and two sisters. At the early age of 10 years old Ollye’s life took at swift and painful turn after the sudden death of her mother, Murtis Causey, during childbirth. It was then Ollye and her now 9 sisters and 3 brothers were nurtured and raised by their parents, Ollie and Geneva Brumfield and grandmother, Nollie Fortenberry-Simmons.
After a traumatic fall left her bed ridden and suffering from uncontrollable seizures, Ollye, yet again found solace in her family and her faith in God. Unable to attend school regularly Ollye was satiated by the prayer and folk stories told to her by her grandma Nollie. It was this shared time and stories that birthed Ollye’s gift of poetry and storytelling. Encouraged by her father and grandmother Ollye graduated valedictorian of her high school class, attended and graduated from Alcorn State University obtaining a B.S. degree in English/Elementary Education. Ollye continued her love for poetry and teaching school for many years. It is with sincere hopes you are uplifted and encouraged by her gift of poetry.
