In 1949 his...view moreBorn in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Gunter was six years old when World War II started in Europe. He lived through bombing, evacuation, separation of family and the aftermath of defeat. In 1949 his family, with younger brother Gerhard, emigrated to the USA, settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There he attended high school and returned to Germany, having been drafted into the US Army. After returning with his bride, Sieglinde - they married in 1958 - he worked in the printing industry, earning his BBA at night at the University of Wisconsin. They have one daughter Heidi and two grandchildren. He and Sieglinde enjoy retirement in Brookfield, Wisconsin.view less
