Another Land” is his fi rst novel. He has written numerous
essays and short stories, among which are “Opening the Door”
in the New York Times Magazine, “Jeshua, Our Brother” in
The Pennsylvania Gazette and “Ms. F…. and Me” in the
Chicago Sun-Times. His other essays and short stories include
“The Science of Gerontology (also known as ‘Love Among
the Ruins’),” “The Catholic Owl and the Jewish Pussycat,”
“Savoir-Faire,” “Second Thoughts,” “Saving David,” “Thinking Jewish” and
“Widening the Path.”
His role in public service has involved the drafting of the Illinois Housing
Development Act and serving, by mayoral appointment, as chairman of the Hyde
Park-Kenwood urban renewal board in Chicago. He has also been involved in
interfaith efforts through his role as a trustee of the Chicago Theological Seminary
and a member of The Chicago Catholic-Jewish Dialogue.view less
