Because of the war, instead of attending high school Jim became a railroad telegraph operator. After brief duty in the army, 1945-1946, two years of travel and work and five years as railroad train dispatcher he married. Starting in 1960 he earned a B.S and M.S. at the University of New Mexico and a Ph. D. in Botany at North Dakota State. This led to the experiences told of in this book.view less
