After graduating from Tuskegee University, he worked alongside his childhood idol, Willie Jefferies, the head football coach at Wichita State University, as a football graduate assistant. He went on to earn a master of education degree in athletic administration. He enjoyed a successful football coaching career and retired from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
