He attended primary school and teacher training college in Igboland in Enugu State, Nigeria. As a primary school child he was interested in storytelling and as such asked his father many questions concerning life in Igboland before European influence (which were happily answered). Later, as a primary school teacher, he was posted from one Igbotown to the other. He studied the local history and cultutre of the Igbo by interviewing his father’s peers and community leaders of the towns where he lived. He also read many books on Igbo history and culture to supplement and authenticate these oral stories. His interest in stories led him to study history through a correspondence course from the Rapid Results College in London. He then began work as a teacher in Igboland in 1952, retiring in 1974.
He is now writing books on Igbo culture to pass on to the youth and historians what he learned from his elders and experts on the subject. He is a member of the prestigious Ihe Shikeaguma Council of Elders and was decorated with the traditional chieftancy title of “Ogbuefi” in 2007.view less
