Cooper served on Okinawa in the 1960s. His combat duty followed in Vietnam with the Third Marine Division, Third Tank Battalion. Following his military service, he attended the University of Georgia, studied journalism (radio/TV/film) and earned a doctorate in adult education. Cooper served as dean of evening administration with Albany Technical College in Albany, Georgia. He retired in 2014.view less
