She is a member of the Dog Writers Association of America (DWAA) and winner of the 2013 prestigious AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Public Service Award. Leila's articles and poetry have also been nominated for several DWAA Special Award Nominations. In 2014 and 2015 Leila was also presented with Certificates of Nomination for Excellence in Books. Leila writes for dog related publications such as The Royal Spaniels and the CKCSC USA National Bulletin. Her writing projects touch on the incredible human-canine bond and its connection to God, responsible dog ownership, and life-lessons learned from her dogs.
Previously a professional ballet dancer and teacher, Leila now enjoys numerous activities with her dogs including conformation dog shows, freestyle, and pet therapy. She established Grandville Cavaliers in 2002 and is recognized as an AKC Breeder of Merit. Leila has a BA in Christian Education and a teaching degree in classical ballet. All these experiences, combined with her love for God, family, and the dogs she adores, are threads woven into her writing. Warm and personal, her writing style will surely appeal to readers of all ages.view less
