Music does...view moreIn the 1970s there was a popular vinyl album on which the Geoff Love Orchestra played “Great War Movie Themes.” When I heard the theme to Lawrence of Arabia it made me want to know more. Music does things like that to me. I went to the old 1950s set of encyclopaedias we had in the house and looked up this fella Lawrence. He has rather haunted me ever since. I am very glad to have got The Melt written and I hope that were he to read it he would be suitably dismissive of its literary failings and enjoyably intrigued by the life I set out for him.
