In 2004, she enlisted in the United States Army Reserve to serve as a Public Affairs Broadcast Specialist. She was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005 to 2006. There, she completed multiple missions to create broadcast news stories and anchored the Baghdad based program Freedom Journal Iraq for the American Forces Network. She separated honorably in 2012. Laurell is now a mother of three and resides in Texas.view less
