His first book ‘Stockport – A Pictorial History‘ was first published in 1988 and was written as a therapy after being diagnosed as having terminal cancer. He survived, and worked voluntarily as a school guide at Quarry Bank Mill near Wilmslow. In 1990 he qualified as a physics teacher and three years later he was teaching Arab adults and Primary School children in Oman. Roy is now Chairman of Compstall Historical Society and has recently written a visitors’ guide to Compstall & Etherow Country Park.view less
