Following the Stonewall Riots in 1969, he co-founded the Gay Activists Alliance (GAA). In 1971, he published The Gay Militants: How Gay Liberation Began in America, 1969–1971. Other published works include the articles “Straight Father, Gay Son: A Memoir of Reconciliation”; “Why Can’t ‘We’ Live Happily Ever After, Too?”; and “Why Record Homosexual Anguish?” He later withdrew from gay activism, concentrating on his freelance editorial career.
