I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and moved to USA in 1996. I am a father of two daughters, Martha and Talem. I grew up in a close, tight-knit, and loving family who dedicated their entire life to make who I am now. My parents and one of my sisters had been street venders in the largest open market “Merkato ‘Buna Tera.’” I give special thanks to my father, who made me interested in math by giving me challenging multiplication problems and teaching me algorithms even though he did not get a chance to learn himself; my mom, who had wanted me to read virtually everything on any paper and all trademarks on the streets and then challenging me to read it the next day if I repeated the same, since she knew the place and I did not as a child; and my sisters, especially Etetye, who lost her life for her brother, who betrayed her in her last moments. I did not go to my mom’s, my dad’s, and my sister’s last moments. They are buried in me, and I wake up every morning with guilt but try to handle it by making sure my daughters are as happy as I once was. So this practice book is totally dedicated to those who contributed to my life, including my teachers.view less
