Having two older brothers, Christopher the oldest; Kevin the second oldest, Matthew triplet #1, and Mark triplet #2. Baby brother Kerry followed me thereafter. Kerry passed away as a toddler from too small of heart. Kevin died as a young adult killed by a drunken illegal Mexican immigrant charged with hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, drunken driving, and vehicular manslaughter. The killer of my brother was sentenced to less than one year in prison with his jail time served in the Sutter County jail facilities located in Yuba City, California.
After graduating from Marysville High School in June 1976, I later attended Yuba College and received an Associate of Science (AS) degree with a major in Architecture, and a minor in both Calculus and Physics in 1979.
In 1980 I left northern California to seek architectural employment in southern California ending up in Orange County, California.
In 1985 I moved to Laguna Niguel after purchasing my first condominium one mile from the Pacific Ocean moving from Newport Beach, California.
In 2006 I sold my Laguna Niguel property after nearly 22 years and moved to Oceanside, California located in northern San Diego County, south of Orange County, were I currently reside.
From 1978 to 2005 I have worked in the architecture and construction industries in both private practice and commercial employment.
I received my license as Registered Architect in the State of California in April 1988 after completing my 8-year minimum apprenticeship and having passed the 4-day, 32 1/2 hour Architects Registration Exam (ARE) without the benefit of a formal Bachelors Degree in Architecture. I am among our nations 5% of registered architects licensed without a formal college education. Architects such as myself are referred to as “Maverick” architects in the industry, similar to a “Mustang” in the Navy.
I received my license as a Registered General Building Contractor in the State of California in March 1992.
I received my certification as a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) in June 2009.
I received my certification in our nation’s Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) from the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC) located in Port Hueneme, California in January 2010.
As part of the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) of 1990, I have earned and received the following six (6) DAWIA Career Field Certifications:
Facilities Engineering Level III in October 2009;
Financial Management Level I in August 2010;
Program Management Level I in September 2010;
Business Cost Estimating Level I in April 2011.
From October 2005 to the present, I have been employed by the Department of Defense (DOD) within the Department of the Navy (DON) at Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW) located in the Public Works Department, Maintenance Engineering Team, at Naval Base San Diego, California.
