He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and piloted the Eager Beaver B-24 bomber in the 9th Squadron in WWII during the European, Asian-Pacific, African Middle Eastern campaigns, as well as one of the camouflaged Pink Elephants of the 344th over the Sahara Desert.
