BOGAN was a Boy Scout Executive, Former Head of Ithaca Post of American Legion, and founder of Camp Barton. He later became executive of Norwela Council in Louisiana, one of the largest Councils in the South, where he was in charge of 110 troops and 2,700 scouts in 10 counties of northwestern Louisiana, his native state. He was an active organizer in the Boy Scout movement, almost doubling the membership of the Ithaca Council of Boy Scouts, and conducted a successful campaign for funds for the Scout Camps of this region.
Born on November 20 1898, in Livingston, Louisiana, Bogan received his Eagle Scout rank in 1922 while serving as Scout Executive for the Louis A. Fuertes Council. He founded Camp Barton, now located at Frontenac Point on the west shore of Cayuga Lake in New York State’s Finger Lakes, in 1927. He also established The Court of Honor and organized the Central New York Jamboree.
He was married to Eleanor Bogan (1907-1994), a New York native.view less
