He is retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections with 24 years of service as a Correctional Officer. He is also a US Army veteran having served from 1972-1986. He holds a BS Degree in History from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce) and a BA degree in Criminal Justice from Fayetteville State University.
