A graduate of The Citadel at Charleston, South Carolina in 1930, he received his M.A. (1939) and Ph.D. (1957) degrees from the University of North Carolina.
He went on to teach history at high school level in Clinton and Rock Hill, South Carolina and then served more than five years in the U.S. Army prior to and during World War II, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. He also taught history at Washington and Lee University before becoming a History professor at Winthrop College from 1950 through 1967.
Dr. Duckett’s research interests centered mostly around the life of John Forsyth and published his work in John Forsyth: Political Tactician in 1962.view less
