Well-known in international historical circles and a member of a number of honorary societies in the U.S. and abroad, Hanna was the recipient of a number of historical awards—including the Officer d’Academie from Palmes Universitaires by the French government in 1935, an award instituted by Napoleon himself in 1808 as a civil decoration and awarded to those who have especially distinguished themselves in education, art, science or literature.view less
