When my grandfather passed away my father bought home his library of books let's of Bible's and Religions books .he had this one book I wanted The Power Of Positive Thinking By Norman Vincent Peale .Even as a teenager I knew this book was important. I tried to read the book and realize I wasn' t ready ,I was only a teenage years later I realize the power of this book, I still have the book .I was reading Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, Gwendolyn Books ,James Baldwin and the Black Panther newspaper trying to understand the why of racialism.
My mother wouldn't buy me a Barbie , when I was a little girl I would ask all the time on my birthday at Xmas , No was always the answer .No Barbie
One day was all she would said, I will tell you why.
So I began to ask why, can't I have a Barbie everyone else has a Barbie, please.
Years later she gives me her unique insight into my body and soul, “That’s Not the Image I Wanted for my Little Girl”
Don’t that image for my little black girl.
You needed to love your blackness first, and not let the outside world make you think less of your Beauty.
That is why you never had a Barbie!!
I wanted you to believe in your own Beauty first. I wanted to show you how to love yourself first
After that I thought my Mother was the smarties woman in the world .She knew how to see herself as a Beautiful Black Woman .As for Barbie I laugh whenever I see one.
