Always at the top of her class, she was a favorite of her English teachers, delighting them with her creative yarns and unusual dexterity with words. Then, at age 17, one of several epic stories swirling around in her head burst through the blinking cursor and became her first novel -- The Shards of Morning. After two years of writing, slashing, rewriting, fine-tuning and much cajoling from her parents (they called it encouragement), she chose to self-publish her novel through Createspace. Shards went on to be chosen as a distinguished finalist in the Indie Excellence Book Awards and the International Book Awards for 2010.
Upon the release of her novel, she began theatre and acting studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Hollywood, CA. She graduated last year, and is currently busy finishing her second book, Council of the Blind, the sequel to The Shards of Morning. (There is a third book in the works as well, which will complete the trilogy)
E.K. Martens nurtures her love of hand-to-hand combat and weaponry by working as a stunt fighter with Sword Fights Inc. She also continues to develop material for television and the web through her production company, Overcast Productions. She is a firm believer in cutting her own roads. Preferably with a sword, a machete or a pen.
She shares her thoughts on writing, living the crazy life of pursuing a career in Hollywood, and the latest installments of her episodic blog-saga; Sherwood (an apocalyptic western), on her blog: Monkeybrains.view less
