Her love of Missouri’s abundant wilderness drove her to create three “The Wildwood Babes” environmental activity books for elementary education.
These activity books, based on six baby animals along with one little human girl named Meadow, show elementary children simple ways they can become Caretakers of our forest. Working with Missouri’s Department of Natural Resources, Region 10 of the US Environmental Protection Agency, and numerous other Solid Waste Agencies, the Wildwood Babes have educated thousands of children on the importance of protecting our natural resources.
Ione’s love of nature and imagination is shown in all her books. She believes a child’s imagination is something that should be cherished and encouraged, for it creates an artistic outlet for children to express themselves, building a higher level of confidence.
Ione and her husband Larry, of 38 years, share the country life with their two dogs, Jack and Buddy, along the old Historic Route 66 Highway in central Missouri. They have two grown sons, Adam and Jeremy, two daughters-in-law,Emily and Paige,(who are all teachers) and four grandsons, Cannon, Noah, Josiah, and little Reggie. Coming from a large family of four sisters and two brothers, family means everything to Ione. Much of her material for her books come from the experiences she has shared with her large and loving family.
“Dial A C.A.T.” is her first full-color story book.view less
