She trained college students in clinical programs how to work with small children, taught academic courses in parent counseling and in interviewing, lectured on child development in various other classes, and participated in several research projects.Alicita received a B.A. in child psychology from Scripps College, Claremont, California, in 1948, where she first worked with educating young children, and an M.A. in sociology of the family from the University of Denver in 1968. She taught kindergarten in a public school in Inglewood, California, and, during 1960-1962, preschool in Lakewood, Colorado. She presented local and national workshops describing her work. She served as a president of the Colorado Association for the Education of Young Children, established that organization’s first scholarship for a student of early childhood education, and funded the scholarship initially with proceeds from the book she edited, Colorado Gold.view less
