All my youthful stories had crudely drawn illustrations and short snappy plot lines that ended happily for my characters. Of course, as always happened, the bad guy got his just reward in the end. Back in the old stone age of the late 1950’s that’s way it was done. Good always triumphed over evil.Poor Mrs. Schluman, my patient 3rd grade teacher, had to contend with this nine year old boy writing fantasy stories about dog detectives, super heroes and the obligatory boogey men creeping through the backyards of Levittown wreaking havoc and mayhem when he should have been doing his school work. I filled my black and white notebooks with stories and drawings instead of homework and addition problems.I had what was categorized for the times an over active imagination...couldn’t do math, but boy could I daydream and think stuff up!Since that time I gravitated towards the fine arts of drawing and painting and subsequently to the teaching of art; thanks to a wonderful art teacher in high school –Richard Weiss- who inspired me toward that vocation.I had a grand career teaching students from elementary school to college and finally hung up my teaching spurs and retired to the rural Mid-Hudson Valley where my wife Nan and I live quite happily.I began painting again along with my writing and am quite satisfied with the quality of my work in both endeavors. I enjoy doing both immensely. My painting pleases my visual muse on the canvas and my writing fulfils and gives outlet to my stories through my desktop Mac.Happily, I hope, there is a sequel in the works with François, Phylo and Kit that will take off a year or two after the events of 112 Mercer Street but still during WW2. It will be situated in war torn Europe and have plenty of suspense and intrigue where the three friends come together to join in the good fight. I can’t wait to see how it will all unfold!view less
