popular subjects. For me history was all dates and uninteresting facts. How
time changes one.
Apart from Christmas the only two dates that stuck in my mind were my
birthday and 1066. I knew what happened on my birthday but I did not fully
appreciate the significance of 1066 – The Battle of Hastings - and little did I
realise the importance of that date on British history.
Some years ago, however, whilst recovering in hospital after an operation I
started reading a book on Edward I and this is when my interest in the history
of the monarchy began.
Although my interest has increased over the years the perennial problem of
remembering all the dates, names etc. remained. I therefore started to gather
some basic facts and recorded them in this booklet. It is of course impossible to
record nearly one thousand years of historical information in such a short
booklet and some small discrepancies were found between one book to
another.view less
