Raised in Omaha, Nebraska,a graduate of Creighton Preparatory Schools, the University of Notre Dame and the Creighton Law School, Bill Brown was the first professional tennis player from Nebraska, ...view moreRaised in Omaha, Nebraska,a graduate of Creighton Preparatory Schools, the University of Notre Dame and the Creighton Law School, Bill Brown was the first professional tennis player from Nebraska, ranked #86 in the world in 1974.Standing 6'4", the tennis journalist Bud Collins dubbed him the "Nebraska Cornstalk".
Bill played seven men who were ranked #1 in the world, defeating one, Illie Nastase. Bill wrote articles that appeared nationally in Tennis USA Magazine, internationally in international Tennis Weekly and regionally in the Magazine of the Midlands of the Omaha World Herald. As a lawyer he was admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in California and Nebraska and before the United States Supreme Court. He lives in Arroyo Grande, California with his wife Karen and their newly rescued Dachshund, Brinkley.view less
