About this audiobook

1535, Oxfordshire.

Lady Maude Shaftsberry has it all sorted. She will marry the well-connected lord, ascend the ranks of the Tudor court, and be mother to a small battalion of boys. But Maude has a secret that she carries everywhere: a birthmark that stretches over her stomach and between her legs. Is it a mark of fertility? Did her mother rub her pregnant belly too vigorously on the full moon? Or is it the sign of a witch?

Her new husband is certain it's the latter. Maude, faced with annulment and the nunnery, must make her own way.

The witches in town are the only ones who will give her refuge, but staying in the apothecary comes at a price. She must help and assist the witches. Surrounded by potions, star charts, a fairy, who appears to be a very large and handsome man who helps around the house, Maude begins to realise there is a strange and seductive power in being outcast.

Regrettably, I am About to Cause Trouble is a tale about being ostracised, and finding our power and family in unusual places.

I was very engaged at first but the book lost me when it wandered away from village witchiness and got into court intrigue.

Highly entertaining, I loved the story and the writing, a nice change from the more serious literature I usually listen to

This book was absolutely divine!!! I was hooked from the first minute and couldn’t stop listening. Amy McNee’s narration is spot on – funny, honest, and so full of life. It’s one of those rare audiobooks that’s even better than reading the print version because of her charm and how ridiculously hilarious she makes the character. Her wit, warmth, and clever storytelling is unmatchable and makes it such a fantastic listen. I smiled and laughed so much throughout and I’ll definitely be coming back to it year after year—it’s truly special to me!

I loved it, and I didn’t want Maud and the others to leave. I do wonder if Maud and Roofus got married ?. This was a good little funny at times witchy of a read.

So funny! Maude is a great character. Self obsessed and bratty crashes headlong into history and a few hard truths about her personal identity.

I really enjoyed the majority of this book, though the end was nothing like I'd thought it would be; in some ways I'm surprised the author chose the particular moment she did as the ending, rather than earlier or later. Maude's journey was one of hard choices and learning to see herself with cleared eyes. The story is often funny, often sad, often empowering.
