About this audiobook

Mark Twain is one of the greatest American writers of all times. His wide life experience gave him all the plots. Millions of adults and children all over the globe still read and love his books. Tales are written in a very special witty manner.

The most famous writings are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These two books became national treasures. These writings are real masterpieces, but there are also plenty of short stories by Mark Twain, which are worthwhile.

One of these tales is "Portrait of King William III". This is an amusing story of a guy, who was fond of The Galaxy magazine’s portraits. The main character treated them very aflutter, he was even sleeping with these portraits under his pillow. Moreover, he started to paint himself. Main hero was trying so hard. Months of practice pour out in the form of portrait of King William III. The author speaks at length about what is depicted on the canvas, different details and critics’ reviews. And the reaction of the King was quite amusing and unexpected.

The language is really expressive, the plot is witty and twisted. You may read the tale a few times before you get the true meaning of the story. Spend some minutes to read it and you won’t regret it.

Mark Twain

Mark Twain, who was born Samuel L. Clemens in Missouri in 1835, wrote some of the most enduring works of literature in the English language, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc was his last completed book—and, by his own estimate, his best. Its acquisition by Harper & Brothers allowed Twain to stave off bankruptcy. He died in 1910.
