About this audiobook
A novelist and a neuroscientist uncover the secrets of human memory.
What makes us remember? Why do we forget? And what, exactly, is a memory?
With playfulness and intelligence, Adventures in Memory answers these questions and more, offering an illuminating look at one of our most fascinating faculties: our memory. The authors—two Norwegian sisters, one a neuropsychologist and the other an acclaimed writer—skillfully interweave history, research, and exceptional personal stories, taking readers on a captivating exploration of the evolving science of memory from its humble Renaissance beginnings up to the present day. They interview experts of all stripes, from the world’s top neuroscientists to famous novelists, from taxi drivers to quizmasters, to help explain how memory works, why it sometimes fails, and what we can do to improve it. Filled with cutting-edge research and nimble storytelling, the result is a charming—and memorable—adventure through human memory.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What actually is a memory? How true is that memory? How do you know that your memory is actually real?
Great book written from a Nordic perspective (meaning they reference a lot of Euro scientists and locations).1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A really interesting book. Written by two sisters. one a well known writer , the other a neuropsychologist.. Many people were interviewed, some with an extra ordinary memory and some with problems remembering.. So many questions as to why, what, how we remember .Very organized, clear explanations ..I like the notes in the back,,, so much more I want to explore!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very readable and very interesting. I had no prior academic knowledge of the subject matter, but found the topics introduced with engaging un-patronising writing. If you have a scintilla of curiosity, it is likely that this will be a facinating read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I read lots of things on neurology: on-line and in magazines and books. Surprisingly, this book held lots of new findings -- new to me, anyway. It was published this year, so should be current (it seems to be). It is written in a style that clarifies and/or extends old facts as well. Took lots of notes, but may buy it after some consideration.Nice to have your sister as your co-worker - this might account for its lightness in tone.
