About this audiobook

**INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER**

In the vein of Mary Beth Keane’s Ask Again, Yes and Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney's The Nest,
Tracey Lange’s We Are the Brennans explores the staying power of shame—and the redemptive power of love—in an Irish Catholic family torn apart by secrets.

When twenty-nine-year-old Sunday Brennan wakes up in a Los Angeles hospital, bruised and battered after a drunk driving accident she caused, she swallows her pride and goes home to her family in New York. But it’s not easy. She deserted them all—and her high school sweetheart—five years before with little explanation, and they've got questions.

Sunday is determined to rebuild her life back on the east coast, even if it does mean tiptoeing around resentful brothers and an ex-fiancé. The longer she stays, however, the more she realizes they need her just as much as she needs them. When a dangerous man from her past brings her family’s pub business to the brink of financial ruin, the only way to protect them is to upend all their secrets—secrets that have damaged the family for generations and will threaten everything they know about their lives. In the aftermath, the Brennan family is forced to confront painful mistakes—and ultimately find a way forward, together.

A Macmillan Audio production from Celadon Books

"Reading this novel is like getting a view through a lighted window on a family sitting around a table after dark. Who are they? What are they talking about? All families have their own story and the ways they tell it to themselves, and untangling the many strands of this one was deep and richly satisfying. Once I started, I couldn't stop. I read it in one long delicious slide." -- Sarah Blake, New York Times bestselling author of The Guest Book

Such a good story about family who stick together to work things out. Everyone is keeping secrets. I sort of thought the ending was a little abrupt. Thinking back over the entire story you see that it just fits so well.

Great fictional family drama. The Brennans are a large clan, with 3 sons (Denny, Jackie, and Shane) and 1 daughter (Sunday). While at work, Denny gets a call from a hospital in Los Angeles that his sister Sunday was in a car accident while driving under the influence. He was her emergency contact, but they had not been in touch for over 5 years when she had suddenly left New York and her ex-fiancee. Sunday returns to New York temporarily to help Denny out with the family bar Brennans, where surprising family secrets and history are revealed. Each chapter is told from a different character's point of view, but there is no repetition in the story. So the next chapter and character begin where the previous one left off. This made for a very smooth and seamless read. The tension, angst, and love between the characters are displayed with every moment that occurs in the story. I kept wanting to read the next chapter to see what happens and see another secret divulged. I literally flipped the last page and kept looking for the rest of the story. Yes, it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger. I hope Ms. Tracey Lange has the continuation of the Brennans coming out soon, I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for this clan.

Great, if you like Irish family drama - which I do. The ending was not too much of a surprise, however, so the four stars will keep. Enjoyed it otherwise.

It was somehow boring. Several boring characters are making lots of bad decisions and keeping boring secrets.

4.5 stars - I wish I were a Brennan! The audiobook was so enjoyable, perfectly bringing each character to life as their POV was told.

I'm a sucker for accents and family drama, so this book was a hit for me. I also love being kept on my seat hoping something doesn't happen, but secretly wishing it would...

Several members of the Brennan family are dealing with their own personal struggles, and I appreciate the reality of what they're going through and how each of them are dealing with it.

If you enjoy a good, strong Irish family - this is the book for you. It was over way too soon for me, but I loved every page!

Let’s just excuse our shitty behaviour because we’re “family”. Eyerolls ensue.
Excellent audio narration but this book was really irritating because of how self-centred the main characters were, especially Sunday. Also the victim blaming was horrendous.
