About this audiobook

Newly revised and available in audio, this is the unforgettable chronicle of Rusty Firmin's combat experiences – a fascinating and intimate portrayal of what it was like to be part of the world's most respected Special Operations Force.

From its early beginnings in World War II, the Special Air Service (SAS) has won renown in some of the most dramatic, dangerous and controversial military special operations of the 20th century. It is a secretive and mysterious unit, whose operations and internal structures are hidden from the public eye. Now, one of its longest-serving veterans offers a glimpse into the shadowy world of the SAS. Rusty Firmin spent an incredible 15 years with 'The Regiment' and was a key figure in the assault of the Iranian Embassy in London in May 1980.

Enjoyable read well composed and very interesting. My only reason for not liking it more was the author really had a hatred for the IRA even though they are called the Irish Republican Army and we’re using guerrilla tactics which the SAS invented to defend and repel there homeland from an occupying force ( the British) and he constantly called them terrorists without going into the abuse the British army inflicted on a civilian population to balance his argument

Great book on the sas and perfect narrator. Great info on the embassy shooting and behind the scenes. Highly recommend this book, especially for anyone interested in joining commonwealth special forces. Make sure you become a freemason first ;)

The book was fantastic ,only to be spoilt by the narrator, Who read the book with a monotone expressionless voice, which would be more at home reading a shopping list. Or Saturdays horse racing results. Sorry but this book needed to be read with feeling. I found myself getting more and more frustrated with him. Telling him more than once to get a grip and put some bloody life into it.

Cracking stories told with humour. I've listened to most of the ex SAS books out there. This is better. Rusty must have been allowed by the MoD to reveal much more detail of his operations, given that most are pre 1980. Doesn't hold back scathing opinions of the big wigs at that time. Special mention to the narrator who is gifted, and a master of accents.
