I really enjoyed this book. As a medium who regularly channels spirit. It was really interesting for me to see the parallels between shamanism and how I connect. I particularly loved how often ethics were discussed, so essential when working with spirit.2 people found this helpful

This book is foolproof, it makes sense and it is mind blowing to understand so much that you already know but didn't realize it. My prejudice almost stopped me from receiving so much of healing.1 person found this helpful

I wanted to really like this—there is good content here and there. But it overgeneralizes shamanism and often uses indigenous people as just one blanket term (ie. “Indigenous people have known this”—which ones????). The tone of the book sounds like it's just sweeping up thousands of distinct cultures and putting them into one box to use them as a prop and is really hard to ignore because it keeps piling on. I could not get to the end. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I think this must be one of the most tedious books I have ever read
Incredibly repetitive, saying the same thing over and over.
Where's the wisdom? I never found it. And I was looking hard. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I have read and loved the book...loads of very practical yet deep insights and exercises.
The narration is particularly warm and connecting with the very essence of all the subtle yet powerful nuances of this extremely vast field and path of growth. The voice is richly, calmly feminine, contouring nicely along with the touching facets of the learning journey... a vast relief from the daily monotony of Burt-stupid “badass” toxicity and venom, this is a mighty resource I look forward to re-hearing over and over to fully grasp shamanistic precepts with my soul/heart.2 people found this helpful

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to connect back to nature or things like shamanism. People into hypnosis are also likely to enjoy the book. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

An adequate review of various practices. Worth reading as an introduction. I was very disappointed with the section about the culture we live in. I don't understand at all how "finding new energy sources" belongs in a book about the spirit. Our culture's addiction to electricity and gasoline is the problem, not the solution, and has nothing to do with spirituality. We don't need energy sources, we need to end our addiction to such things. My second complaint, is that this book is written from a colonizer perspective, even suggesting that civilization itself is a good thing. Modern civilization is a great empire that has been destroying the many indigenous cultures the author's have learned from, and part of our goal should be the dismantling of this culture, and in creating a new society based on reciprocity instead of empire. All that said, most of the book is worthy of reading in order to discover new methods.1 person found this helpful

A very nice book which goes over a lot of different things. I was slightly of put by the authors not really going into any warnings and mentions of the potential dangers of journeying however as well as stating that all spirits were especially helping spirits. In general though I enjoyed the book and have a lot of interesting information and thoughts.
