Biblical fiction is the absolute best and Tessa Afshar is definitely one of the top Biblical fiction authors imo! So I was thrilled when I found this one as an audiobook on Scribd, since I drive a lot and audiobooks help break up the monotony. The way she intertwined history with biblical truth and real life feelings and emotions is captivating. As believers we are not always promised roses and sunshine but we are promised peace and the assurance that God will be with us through our trials. Karen and Jared both experienced loss and sacrifice but they also saw amazing grace, comfort and incredible maneuvering from the One who holds all our tomorrows and works all things according to His good pleasure.

It took me a while to get caught up in the book…I felt like the pace was a little slow to start with. However, once I got far enough I was hooked. The story had several layers to the plot and was captivating and moving.

This book had me laughing, crying, cringing, and covering my mouth in horror. In short, it has it all PLUS the added bonus of teaching me more about Biblical and historical times.

I just preordered the next book.

HOWEVER, I did not care for the narrator. I definitely got more out of it when I read the book for myself.

Tessa Afshar is one of my very favorite authors, and this particular story is outstanding, one of her best! The characters are so real and relatable, and the storyline kept me intrigued all the way till the end. Definitely purchasing a print copy for my own library!
