A history, with detailed examples, of intolerance and prejudice in U.S. history.

All middle school classrooms should have a copy of this book on it's shelves. It's hard to find books that tackles religion, exile, freedom, and racial extermination (among other topics) in middle school literature that doesn't tip toe. Carne's presents chapters that highlight a variety of oppressed groups without apology. He personalizes a history of hate with story, photographs, paintings and much more. While at once displaying hate in no uncertain terms, this book also speaks to responsibility and integrity. Wonderful companion to a middle and high school classroom.
