Mitch Albom

Mitch Albom is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, which have collectively sold forty-two million copies in forty-eight languages worldwide. He has written eight number-one New York Times bestsellers—including Tuesdays with Morrie, the bestselling memoir of all time—award-winning television films, stage plays, screenplays, a nationally syndicated newspaper column, and a musical. Through his work at the Detroit Free Press, he was inducted into both the National Sports Media Association and Michigan Sports halls of fame and is the recipient of the 2010 Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement. He founded the nonprofit SAY Detroit, which provides pathways to success for Detroiters in need through major health, housing and education initiatives. In the Next Person, you meet in Heaven Mitch Albom introduces us to Annie who at the beginning of this book as a little girl. Annie the little girl who was saved at by Uncle Eddie, an amusement park mechanic who thought his life didn't matter. Eddie was a wounded war veteran. On Eddie's 83rd birthday, a tragic accident kills him, as he tries to save a little girl from a falling cart. This is where the 5 people you meet in heaven ends.
The sequel begins with the little girl is Anne. We watch Annie struggle with being different in school and being bullied and her misunderstood relationship with her mother.
The book reminds you, everyone struggles, mistakes are ok, we learn from them. There are many lessons but my favorite is Annie gets a dog and later the dog comes back to her when Annie dies after a hot air balloon accident and told Annie if she would not have been lonely she would not have had the great life she had.

We first met Annie in a previous tale about heaven. Now, we learn about Annie’s life, what happened to her after her accident at the amusement park, how she spent her childhood, how she grew up and fell in love, and how she came to be in heaven. We also get a glimpse of others there, including Eddie, the maintenance man who saved her, and we share in the lessons that Annie discovers. This is a version of heaven that the author imagined; it is a novel and not meant to sway anyone’s way of thinking. But it does show how one person can affect another, in unseen ways, and how it all comes together in the end. Annie meets her five people in heaven, and through their connections to her life, she finds the answers that have eluded her while on earth. This thought-provoking sequel packs much power in its pages, and is every bit as good as the first novel.
