About this audiobook

Never Have I Ever meets What If It’s Us in this irreverent summer romp about a high-school senior determined to get over his unrequited feelings by getting under someone else.

Editor's Note

Heart and heartbreak…

Quique, a bisexual high schooler in L.A., attempts to get over his long-term crush on a friend by pursuing other classmates, but his poor mental health complicates matters. This is a coming-of-age YA novel full of heart and heartbreak that authentically portrays queer people of color (Mexican, Afro-Latina, and Palestinian heritages are all represented). Aceves excels at making the complications and emotions of teenhood feel personal to readers.

Fantastic representation of bisexuality and diverse cultures. There were so many moments when the writing got so real and I had to stop what I was doing and soak in the monologue.
The characters weren’t perfect and neither were the scenarios. It felt real and relatable. I absolutely loved this and am eager to see more work from the author!
    PS. Narration was excellent!

Gorgeous. What begins as adolescent-crush antics grows into something palably vulnerable and sincere. The reading and characterization are superb, alternately amusing and achingly touching.

This was so cute and very personal and relatable. I recognized a lot of myself in the protagonist and also in the men he interacts with—archetypes of the people you will encounter during a discovery of yourself. It’s also nice to read a healthy portrayal of a bi character. For some of us older queer people, these are some of the things we wished we could have wrestled with when we were this age.

I would give this a 3.5. There were many relatable plots/ main characters thoughts but many non relatable and out of character plots/ main character thoughts. I found the end to be a little boring but still an overall fun listen.
