This book offered an eye-opening perspective into the lives of refugees, particularly female refugees. It dealt with some complex themes of gender, sexuality and nationhood. Personally, this was a difficult read for me as the imagery was so vivid at times, I had to stop listening (yes I listened to the audio book). The imagery coupled with my very involved imagination, as well as what I would label my own cultural perspectives made this one a challenging read. I applaud the author on bringing to light what I suspect are all too common place issues. Definitely not a light read.
