About this audiobook
Tornadoes are funnel-shaped clouds that can cause massive destruction on the ground. Their winds can swirl faster than 260 miles per hour! In addition to factual information, youngsters will learn about how such extreme weather affects the lives of people in areas where these atmospheric storms are common. Using her acclaimed combination of clear wording and detailed illustrations, Gibbons explains how tornadoes form, the scale used for classifying them, and what to do in case one should be near you.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a great informative text for learning all about tornadoes. It goes through the formation and classification processes, precautions to take if one is coming, and the devastating effects it could have. Tornadoes, along with hurricanes, are serious and important topics to cover when discussing weather. That is why I highly recommend this book. It is a great teaching tool, as are most books by Gail Gibbons. The illustrations serve as diagrams to the text, which provides the explanation. There is a wide variety of ways that one could use this book to enhance student learning.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a book I would use in a science class. I would use it in third-fifth grade classes. The author informs the reader of what causes tornadoes to occur. The illustrations are detailed and demonstrate which ways clouds move . We get a little history about Theodore Fujita who created the Tornado Scale. She also lists the ways to classify tornadoes. Gibbons also gives some history on some of the worst tornadoes that have struck in the U.S. She also writes about preparations that be made before and after the tornadoes strike. One thing I really liked is that underneath the pictures, she has words written in bold, with its definition next to it.

Personal reaction: I feel that this book is very important and very informational. With living in Oklahoma, I feel that everyone needs to have the information in order to keep themselves safe. I know from moving to here from Florida, I had no idea how bad they could be. Classroom Extension: I way that I could include this books lesson into the classroom would be to have the children explain in their own words the different stages of tornadoes and what signs to watch for them!
