About this audiobook
A rip-roaring sequel to the adventure the New York Times called "engrossing and unpredictable, with likable heroes and charming accomplices." Terrible news has reached cat brothers Anton and Cecil: their rodent friend Hieronymus has been captured. Anton and Cecil must try to rescue the mouse who once saved Anton's life. Boarding one of the monstrous machines the mice call "landships," the brothers travel to the Wild West. Along the way Cecil is tossed out onto the prairie by the train's conductor, only to face bison, prairie dogs, and a boy who would make him a pet. Meanwhile, Anton meets a ferret friend who warns of stampeding herds, rattlesnakes, and fierce, enormous cats. Facing such danger, can Anton and Cecil find the courage and wit to save Hieronymus? Praise for Anton and Cecil: Cats at Sea: "The plot is carefully woven, the vocabulary rich and distinctive, and the characters engaging." -Kirkus Reviews "Enchanting . . . [Lisa Martin and Valerie Martin] effortlessly submerge readers in the setting." -Shelf Awareness for Readers "Children who like animal fantasies such as Avi's Poppy will find much to enjoy here." -School Library Journal

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Again, cute fluff. New adventure, again heavily dependent on luck and confidence. No generational prophesy on this one - it's more about the power of networking. Be friendly to everyone you can; if they can't help you, they can lead you to someone who can lead you to someone (...repeat as needed...) who can help you. It's slightly more believable than the first book, though only slightly - separated parties rejoin way too easily. Some very quick healing happens. And - the mouse is definitely mouse-colored (gray-brown), why does she call him Snowball? Odd. Fun to read once, and if someone just the right age read it it might become a treasured favorite. Not for me, though. Oh - I have the ARC; lots of "art to come", with sketches filling in most of the spots (some are just blank). But even those sketches are nicely done, conveying the movement and action of the scene depicted.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the second book in the Anton and Cecil historical fiction series. Anton and Cecil are safe at home when they get a message through the mouse network that Hieronymus Mouse has been captured. They head off to rescue him, even though Anton does not really want to go. The adventure takes them on across the sea and onto a “landship”. They travel across the continent by train, see a boat with a wheel and along the way they meet prairie dogs, cougars, buffalo and more. Cecil gets into all kinds of trouble, the pair get separated a couple of times but all in all they accomplish what they set out to do, rescue Hieronymus. What an enjoyable adventure for a pair of adventurous cats. For readers who love animal adventurers this is a fun series.
