About this audiobook

Baker Street Mice - Beware!

So far the twins are safe. They'll stay that way if you do what we say. We've decided to make your Baker Street cellar the headquarters for our gang. Everybody must be out in 48 hours. It's Basil's job to move you all out, just the way he moved you in. Better make it fast! And leave the furniture - we need it.

This is the only warning you'll get. And listen - if you don't follow our orders, you'll never set eyes on those twins again!

This is a fun pastiche, but not really enjoyable for adults.

Basil the mouse and his friend Dr. Dawson live in the cellar under 221 B Baker Street. Basil is a detective, much lauded by the mouse community, just as his hero, Sherlock Holmes, is of the human world. Two little twin girl mice have been kidnapped and her parents ask Basil to take the case.Written very much in the style of the Holmes books this is a wonderful mystery for young children and a good introduction to Holmes himself. We really enjoyed the story and I found it as much fun as I did as a child. It is also perfect for reading aloud. I found myself doing the voices of either Shemlock Hemlock or Maxwell Smart as I read. Lots of fun!

Written by children’s author Eve Titus, Basil is a mouse possessing the qualities of Sherlock Holmes, whom he has studied at close range. In this mystery, Basil must save two mice sisters who were kidnapped. This series is delightful no matter what the age of the reader is, and the superb narration by Ralph Lister adds much enjoyment.

Basil of Baker Street is a children’s book based on the Sherlock Holmes stories. Basil—a famous sleuth of mousedom--lives in the cellar of Sherlock Holmes' house. A great admirer of the Holmes, Basil has learned his craft by listening at the feet of Holmes himself. The Mystery of the Missing Twins was one of the strangest cases in Basil's career. He had only a few crumbs of clues with which to find solutions to such baffling questions as: Who had masterminded the plot? Where were the twins, Angela and Agatha, being kept? Using the deductive reasoning he has learned from Holmes he is able to solve the mystery just in time. A great book for those that want to introduce a young child to Holmes—fun and easy read. Illustration were also quite nice. A 3.5 stars out of 5.

As a kid I would probably have loved the Basil series beyond reason. It has everything I loved - anthropomorphized mice, mystery, Victorian setting...Anyway, Basil of Baker Street models himself after Sherlock Holmes. He lives in Holmes' cellar and manages to eavesdrop on Holmes in all his mystery-solving glory. Consequently Basil becomes the detective par excellence of his mouse neighborhood. In this story two little mice are kidnapped in order to blackmail Basil's mouse neighborhood into leaving so that a gang of mouse thugs can take over their street. Basil solves the crime and returns the mice to their parents all with very little trouble. It's a really good beginning chapter book - not too complicated of a plot, easy sentence structure, not an intensive vocabulary. Will appeal to kids who like mysteries and hopefully inspire them to move onto Doyle when they're ready.

It's hard to write a mystery for children: bad things happen in them. This one involves a kidnapping and a mouse team deliberately reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Recommended by a fellow reader to children at a book fair.

The book on which the Disney's Great Mouse Detective was later based. I loved this book so much that the pages are coming out.
